Our investment has resulted in a significant increase in participation and competitive opportunities:
- 283 pupils took part in inter-school sporting opportunities, compared with 211 the previous year.
- The number of inter-school events increased from 47 to 58.
- We provided 6 intra-school competitions, giving children additional opportunities to compete within school.
- We provided over 60 sporting events, including 16 new events across 6 new sports.
- We increased opportunities for pupils with SEND, including 3 additional SEND sporting events.
- The number of sports available to pupils increased from 8 to 14.
- 11 extra-curricular clubs provided opportunities for 175+ children.
- Park Primary achieved Platinum School Games Mark, recognising our commitment to participation, competition, inclusion and sporting opportunities.
Swimming and water safety
The proportion of Year 6 pupils achieving the expected swimming standard increased from 23% to 42%.
Our aim is for pupils to leave Park Primary able to:
- swim competently, confidently and proficiently over 25 metres;
- use a range of swimming strokes effectively; and
- perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
Swimming attainment is tracked throughout Years 3–6 so that additional support can be targeted where it is needed.
How will we sustain the improvements?
The funding has been used to develop long-term capacity rather than simply provide one-off activities. Staff mentoring and professional development have increased the confidence and expertise of teachers; our PE curriculum and digital planning resources provide a consistent progression of skills; equipment purchased will continue to support future cohorts; and our established programme of clubs, intra-school and inter-school competition will continue to provide regular opportunities for pupils to be active and compete.
Our continued ambition is to provide high-quality PE, a broad range of sporting opportunities and an inclusive culture in which every child can participate, achieve and develop a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity.
