Reception – Take a look at us
It’s a new term and this term we are learning all about animals. This week we have been busy writing letters to Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm. We wrote some lovely descriptions of different animals using adjectives to make our writing exciting and interesting. Our role play areas have been turned into jungles and we have been busy exploring different mini-beats and animals. As part of our number work we have been looking at money and learning to identify different coins. We then used 1p, 2p and 10p coins to make different amounts. We have had lots of fun making our own animal masks using paper plates, paint and paper.
This week we have been busy designing carriages to take Cinderella to the Ball. First we had to draw our own designs onto whiteboards and then have a go at making the carriage using junk modelling. We have also sent some very exciting invitations in the post to our families! We are going to have our very own Ball at school and we are really excited to share our dancing and singing with you.
This week we have been learning all about different festivals and celebrations. We made our own Rangoli patterns and enjoyed learning all about Chinese New Year. Our role play areas were turned into Chinese Restaurants and we were able to taste some prawn crackers.
This week during our maths lessons we have been learning how to use bee-bots. We used the bee-bots to help us learn directional language and how to programme. We had to direct the bee-bot to different circus pictures spread out across the table. We did a fantastic job and showed excellent team work.
This week we have been busy learning all about capacity. We have had so much fun measuring different containers in our water trays and have learnt lots about what capacity means! We were able to use smaller containers to fill up big containers and think about how much liquid different containers could hold. We thought about which containers were full, half full and empty and made some lovely comparisons.
Cooking in Reception
This week we have been busy following recipes and measuring ingredients. We enjoyed the biscuit bear story so much that we made our own biscuit bears using flour, butter and sugar. We used spoons to mix the ingredients together, rolling pins to roll out the dough and cutters to cut out our bears. We had so much fun cooking our bears and they tasted delicious too!
