Reasoning is fundamental to knowing and doing mathematics. Reasoning enables children to make use of their mathematical skills and so reasoning could be thought of as the ‘glue’ which helps mathematics makes sense.

To solve problems by making relationships between mathematical ideas and proving what they have found out through argument and explanation using mathematical language.
