Physical Education
We recognise the importance of providing children with a broad and balanced curriculum in order to prepare them for life in the 21st century. Sport and physical education is an integral part of the curriculum we provide because as a school, we understand how active, healthy bodies can promote active, healthy minds. Following on from covid-19, the importance of children’s well-being is even more of a priority. This improves children’s ability to focus and engage in their daily learning as well as becoming active citizens for life. We use the School Games Mark as a criteria to set ourselves goals and aspirations for our pupils in PE.
Aims of PE by the end of KS2
We do so by ensuring all individuals have equal opportunities across all aspects of physical education and intend that all children:
- Develop fundamental movement skills across a broad range of physical activities
- Are physically active for 60 minutes per day
- Understand the importance of mental and physical health
- Engage in a range of regular competitive sporting activities

How we deliver PE
Download: CSET Competition Code of Conduct
In the EYFS children develop basic movement skills such as spatial awareness, coordination and balance.
As they progress into KS1 they begin to apply these fundamental movement skills through mini competitive games and activities.
In KS2 children take more ownership over their PE sessions, taking on roles as leaders, working as part of a team and participating in a range of competitive sporting activities to establish their understanding of sportsmanship.
All children receive two hours of curriculum PE per week, delivered by a specialist sports coach and their class teacher. As a federation we offer a range of CPD courses and opportunities to keep staff up to date with the latest sports and techniques.
In addition to the above we also offer the following to pupils:
- Opportunities to participate in numerous intra-school competitions, challenging themselves in new environments across the local area
- Daily after school clubs covering a range of different sports
- SEND pupils offered opportunities to compete in inclusive festivals outside of our own school
- A chance to experience a diverse range of sports seen on a global level, alongside celebrating historic events such as the Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games.
